Day 14: North to Alaska
June 25, 2008 - Homer to Anchorage
Ah, now this is what riding in Alaska is supposed to be like, cold and overcast with some rain. :) I've been spoiled by how good the weather's been.
Got out of Homer early, before 8AM. Well, that's early for this trip.
Saw a funny thing a little ways north, a 'Jersey Sub' place. Wish it had been lunch time, I'd had tried it and saw how it compared to a #4 from Joyce's.
At the 1/9 junction went south to Seward, this was the rainy stretch. Not very bad though, just a little cold. Had lunch at a local diner type place and then headed up to Anchorage, Need to get tires put on.
Got to Alaska Leather around 5PM, they had the tires, but no tire guy to put them on. 'When's he coming in??' 'After 5PM tomorrow.' 'Oh crap!!'
I explained my schedule, they were able to get a hold of him and he swung by to put them on. Whew.
So a word to the wise if you're planning on getting tires up there, check ahead of time to make sure the tire guy is going to be there when you are.
An excellent dinner downtown, grilled scallops with an Alaska IPA (finally, a really good one!!) and back to the hotel. Valdez tomorrow.
