Day 12: North to Alaska
June 23, 2008 - Fairbanks to Anchorage
Another simple day, just ran straight down the Parks Hwy from Fairbanks to Anchorage. Weather was more of what I'd expected to see, very cool and overcast, with the clouds quite low at times. Had to use the electric vest for the first time. :) Pic #4 is looking right at Mt. McKinley, but it was completely covered by the clouds. That's typical, wasn't really expecting to get a good look.
Dinner was at a downtown restaurant called Orso, here's what I had:
Alaska Wild Salmon
Pepper grilled wild salmon with wilted spinach, creamy polenta and Mediterranean tomato olive relish.
The waitress told me it was sockeye salmon. Really good. Beer was a little odd, tried the IPA (of course :)) it tasted almost like a 50/50 mix of IPA and a wheat beer. Good, but definitely different.
Down into the Kenai peninsula tomorrow, forecast is for cool and damp.
Hopefully not too wet. I'd like to camp out on the Homer spit.
